Mailmerge emails with attachments OR with attributes unavailable in MS-Word's regular email mailmerge

Mailmerge emails with attachments OR with attributes unavailable in MS-Word's regular email mailmerge

Scenario: you've an email to send to several individuals, each with a different email attachment OR you have an email you want to send with attributes not available in MS-Word's regular mailmerge function

Fix: create an MS-Word mailmerge letter and use an MS-Word macro to send it

Step one: create a mailmerge data source

Create an MS-Excel workbook containing the email recipient data together with fields containing paths to their attachment. The MS-Excel worksheet can contain any additional data you need to include in the mailmerge (including formula-generated fields) plus any of the following email-related fields:
  1. To (multiple email addresses can be separated with a semicolon)
  2. CC (multiple email addresses can be separated with a semicolon)
  3. BCC (multiple email addresses can be separated with a semicolon)
  4. Subject
  5. Importance (high, normal or low)
  6. Sensitivity (personal, confidential, private or normal)
  7. ReadReceipt (True, Yes, Y, False, No or N)
  8. DeliveryReceipt (True, Yes, Y, False, No or N)
  9. DeliveryTime (dd/MM/yyyy HH:mm)
  10. Account (full email address of a profile set up on your computer other than your own, if there is one)
  11. SendAs (full email address of individual or team you have send-as / send-on-behalf permission for)
  12. Attachment OR AttachmentN where 'N' is a unique number (path to file to send)
You can remove any of the above columns or leave them blank - either way, they will be ignored.

Step two: create a mailmerge letter

Use MS-Word's 'Mailings' function to create a mailmerge letter with fields that point to the data source created in step one.

Step three: run macro

Select Macros from MS-Word's Developer ribbon:

Select EnhancedMailMergeToEmail from the pop-up that results and click the Run button:

The MS-Word screen will flicker once for each email created.
